Every Tuesday, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Kaiser High School hosts an Open Market in the Parking Lot. The Market consists of many vendors, most of which are small businesses selling their products, or are there to fundraise for various programs and events.
Most of the tents and vendors come from varying areas, with one of them being from Hahaione Elementary School & their Student Council. “We’re supporting the Laulima Program” says Nadia, the school’s 24-25 Student Council Corresponding Secretary. “We’re supporting this mother who recently lost her husband due to Stage IV Cancer.” According to Nadia, the mother has 11 children, three of which are out of the house already. She’s trying to support her 8 other children, so Hahaione’s student council decided to raise money and send all the profits to her. According to the other vendor, that being Rylee, the 24-25 Student Council Vice President, “We’re working to get her children a solid place to sleep, so they’re able to sleep in places other than on the floor.” It’s not just bedding, though. Food, Water, and other necessities are also what these students are helping this mother afford.
The types of products that are available can vary greatly, with some interesting ones on display. One of the tents, that being Microwavabowls, serves a single serving of hot pot that can be conveniently served. According to the owner, “All you do is throw it in the microwave for four minutes, add some hot water, and you’re ready to go. You just heat and eat.”
The markets also consisted of products including snacks, jewelry, or complete meals. As an example, Kaiser’s own PTSA sold Zippy’s tickets at the market, which could be redeemed for various meals at the restaurant. The booth was specifically run by Stephanie Zane, a staff member of Kaiser.
Some of the booths are also there to fundraise for programs and activities. For instance,
