Cougar Connection has had it’s share of staff members coming and leaving, but none have been as impactful to the team as Junior Sooseok Lim.
Lim has taken part in the class for 3 years, but is unfortunately moving back to South Korea on February 12th, although his last day at Kaiser will be on February 7th.
Lim is well-known for his articles about wars and conflicts, primarily between Russia & Ukraine. However, he has also covered various other conflicts that include North Korea. His final article (Which is yet to be released) covers some final tidbits regarding both the Russia/Ukraine conflict, and some concerns with North Korea’s current political state.
Lim didn’t start by writing articles on the war. Rather, his first article was based on the chickens on campus. In fact, he worked on this article alongside Dillon Balantic, retired Editor-In-Chief. This article was published on November 18th, 2022. The article performed decently, ranked 29th most viewed article on the Cougar Connection website, with a total of 33 views.
Lim’s next few articles were all based on conflicts and wars, which is what he’s now best known for. His second article covered concerns regarding North Korea and their missiles. This article was published on February 23rd, 2025, 3-4 months after his first article was published.
His next article was published 2 months later, on the 19th of April. This article covered widespread panic in the Pacific Region after North Korea launched a missile above them.
His fourth article covered parts of the war between Russia and Ukraine, but mainly focused on the support given to Ukraine by the US. This article was released less than a month after his previous one, on May 17th, 2024.
His fifth article was released on December 20th, 2024, and marked his first article for the 24-25 school year. This article gave a heavier focus on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Finally, his sixth article covers both North Korea concerns and the Russian Conflict one final time. This was his final article before his eventual departure from the Newswriting Team, as well as from Kaiser’s campus entirely. As of writing this article, Lim’s final work has not been published yet, as it is expected to release alongside February’s other articles.

For the past 3 years, Sooseok has changed the environment of the Newswriting classroom, and we are all sad to see him go. As of now, Sooseok is the only War Correspondent, and is the only student in this class to ever get a unique title. Although he continues to learn and understand the English language, he has created impressively detailed articles during his time here, and we all know he will continue to thrive and do well in the future, near and far.
Thank you for everything Sooseok. You mean the world to us, and we will not forget the wonderful contributions you have made to our team.
Good luck.
