Breakfast and lunch is a huge contributor to a student’s ability to focus in class. Many kids at Kaiser High School choose not to eat breakfast or lunch just because they don’t want to or may not be able to afford it. Students have strong opinions about the school lunches at Kaiser and they don’t like it. Public schools often aim to buy food on the cheaper side simply because they cannot afford to serve good-quality food. Private schools, on the other hand have many more options as well as more nutritional options compared to public schools. This is because they have more funding to do so.

Kids often choose not to eat school lunches because of how they taste or how low in nutritional value they are. Students at Kaiser have expressed concerns about what the cafeteria serves for lunch and breakfast. One of the options for breakfast at Kaiser is a sausage pizza. This is an example of a very non-nutritional breakfast.

Students need food to fuel their brains in order to focus in class. Studies have shown that kids who eat breakfast in the morning improve their cognitive performance, including an increase in memory and attention in the classroom. In the morning, students should have a healthy and nutritious meal before heading to class, whether they eat breakfast at school or at home.
A student at Kaiser High School expressed his opinions about the school lunch. Reef Tolosa suggests that Kaiser should make meals a little cheaper as well as implement more fruits and vegetables into the meals. He doesn’t buy school lunch but his friends do, he sees that there aren’t that many healthy meals that are provided for lunch, and although there is an option for vegetables, not everyone chooses to eat them. “More fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as more fresh starches, should be implemented into the school lunch. There should also be a 2nd option for the main meal so that students have the option to choose that instead of the original option because not everyone likes the same thing.” Said Tolosa. Tolosa agrees that our school should have multiple choices for the main meal as well as at least one type of vegetable to have a healthy balanced meal.
Adam Yamada, another student at Kaiser High School, shared his perspective on the provided meals, saying, “School lunch and breakfast should provide fruits and a few starches that will keep students full and attentive during class.” Providing students with well-balanced meals is vital for their brain function, and teachers and parents would undoubtedly thank the school for the resulting improvements in grades and student focus. The most popular lunches at Kaiser are Kalua pork nachos, cheese bites, and chicken tenders. Yamada also recommends that the cafeteria should provide more drink options that provide healthy ways of providing energy or electrolytes.

Overall, it has been agreed upon that Kaiser should provide healthier options and more options for students. When students have the brain fuel they need to focus in class, their days go better, and their attitude towards school improves. Fruits and vegetables should be added as a requirement to the breakfast and lunch options. As a result, every Kaiser student who buys lunch or breakfast will consume a healthy and well-balanced meal.
