
The Kaiser swim season is now finished, and this record breaking season was a huge success. As a team for Varsity, we placed second in the OIA Championships and our performance at the States Championships was nothing short of incredible. The Kaiser team broke the 400 free relay record, following the season’s end. The successful season sparked a deep team comradery that is shared between the members of the swim team.
Emily G. is a freshman that joined Kaiser. She has been swimming for 7 years now, primarily at Oahu club. She performs exceptionally well at Fly, placing second at OIA Championships and qualifying for states. She also scored the most points for the girls team. “It felt really good to be at states knowing that all the hard work I put into the season showed off.” Her favorite event in club swimming is 200 backstroke. “My favorite part of swimming is the community that comes with it. I’ve gotten to meet so many great people through swimming that I’m so grateful for.” One of her main challenges was when she got sick .

Braham Davies is also a Freshman. He has mastered the 500 freestyle and has broken countless records throughout the season. He scored the most points in the boys team and is one of the best performing swimmers in the State. “It felt great to be at States competing against the best of the best. “He really enjoys getting faster. “I think it’s better to practice for a long period of time and practice technique.” Brahman has been swimming since he was 4. In terms of his recent performance at states. “I feel very happy with my results. At both of my events, I got personal bests, but I think one thing I wasn’t really happy about was two 2nd places.”
Alexis Young started Kaiser swim this year, and has been labeled the MVP of the girls team. This was a result of her dedication, hard work , and massive improvement throughout the season. Her willingness to persevere through challenges allowed her to swim for varsity in her first year in kaiser. A challenge that she had to overcome throughout the season was diving. “At first my diving sucked, but then I improved it.” Her favorite thing about swimming is being in the water.
Judah, one of the captains of the swim team, had swam for 4 years at Kaiser and was a crucial and beloved member of the team.
Deion Chung, the OIA Champion in regards to the 500 hundred meter free style, is a senior and has been swimming for _ years. His cheerful demeanor and his dedication to win is inspiring to all of his teammates.”My favorite memory is probably every bus ride back from a big meet cause everyone knew we tried our hardest and we could finally relax with each other”. He enjoyed the opportunity to be at states. “States was cool because you know you’re with the fastest in the state. It’s like a chance to prove yourself.” He fell sick during states and championships so he has another chance to perform at sectionals. (Club) Chung has aspirations to swim in college. “I want to swim in college but I’m lowkey not fast enough. That’s why I’m glad I get one more shot to prove myself.”

Kiley Frietas, a team captain joining Kaiser only 2 years ago, has had a profound impact on the team. As a senior and captain, she holds a lot of responsibility in managing the logistics of the swim team, helping to design merchandise and overall team responsibilities. One of her favorite memories was cheering last year for the OIA Champs.”Specifically the boys 400 free relay.” Kiley is one of the most beloved members of the swim team. “I began club swimming for a while and quit due to sailing.” A struggle this season for her was “staying motivated while school was hard.” The balance between academics and extracurricular activities was difficult. As she moves on to college, she decided to not continue to swim. One of the swimmers favorite memories of Kiley was eating shave ice with her after a swim meet.
Malia Judd has been swimming at Kaiser for 3 years. Her main event was the 100m Breastroke She decided to make the hard decision to not swim this year. “I tried my best to continue swimming but when season came I just felt that swimming wasn’t right for me. I had an amazing 3 years swimming and wanted to leave it there” Her favorite memory throughout her years of swimming was coming to practice at Kaiser. my favorite memory from the swim team was coming to practice. I swam for the club for the longest time, and going to practice became something I dreaded, but when I came to Kaiser, practices were exciting and everyone was welcoming.”
