On October 4th, the Kaiser football team played Radford. It was the annual homecoming game. During this game, the final score was 21-28. The Cougars made a wonderful comeback in the fourth quarter with 2 minutes remaining because C.Hamasaki ran 23 yards and scored a touchdown, and then K.Mckillop got a kick past Radford. Trailing behind 5 net rush, Kaiser got 139 in total, while Radford got 144. They managed to score a touchdown, catching up to Radford.

The football team wasn’t the only attention catcher. During halftime, the Kaiser family welcomed the royal court to the field and stands. They blew everyone away with their dance skills, and the way they brought Y2K back was so “fetch”. But they were not the biggest stars of the show that night, as the marching band impressed us with a piece called “Aurora.” Tiffani Cervantes, a mellophone player, spoke about their performance. “It was very different, it’s my first year doing this. I don’t know. It was interesting, I didn’t recognize the song, and it’s a great piece, but it was hard to learn because I didn’t recognize the song. Since it was different ,it was fun and I tried new things”.

While the royal court was stealing everyone’s hearts during halftime. The classes wore black and performed various throwback songs, and definitely caught everyone’s attention. While the king and queen wore white/beige. Each class had a different “couple” that was selected by peers, representing what it means to be a Kaiser Cougar. One of our royal court members Stella Wong, said, “When I was first elected for homecoming, I was really nervous about the requirements that came with it. Other than that, I was excited for the whole experience. I had a really great time being on the homecoming court. I met new people and actually really enjoyed all the dance practices. The parade was probably my favorite event that came with it. The dance required a lot of time to learn, and in all honesty, I thought it was way too long. The practices were really fun, but the whole time I was nervous about performing. Yet at the homecoming assembly, I had so much fun finally doing the dance we’ve been practicing for weeks”.
2nd quarter Kaiser possession

During the game, there were noticeably fewer people attending than last year. Throughout last year’s game, the stands were packed with blue and gold. Considering this was Kaiser’s first year in Division 1, they had better-versed competition, leading to a more difficult season. Despite the hardship they faced after many seniors left last year, they still played tough throughout the year. Kaiser will be returning to Division 2 next year based on their record this season. Although this year was challenging for the team, the experience they gained will carry over into the next season.
