Prom season’s in full swing! With the junior prom coming up this weekend, it’s only right we look back on senior prom, which took place on April 18th.
This year’s senior prom was hosted at The Kahala Hotel, in its signature ballroom near the Dolphin pools. Over 150 seniors and guests attended, and it went from 5 to 10 pm. Gates opened at 5, closed at 6, and the main event was from 6 to 10 (or 9, if you decided to opt out early).
This year’s prom theme was A Night At the Bellagio, featuring casino-themed games and decor. Alongside the regular prom dresscode, students were encouraged to lean into the bellagio theme! Colors like red and black were encouraged.
At 7, prom-goers were treated to a buffet-style dinner and desserts, courtesy of The Kahala Hotel. The dinner menu featured a variety of meat options, salad, truffle macaroni, rice, and a collection of other sides. Dessert options consisted of chocolate cake, mango cheesecake, and the Kahala-special bread pudding.
But before dinner was the games! A series of games were hosted between tables, ranging from card games to wig snatching– it created a fun competition between tables and encouraged student interaction before the dance.
The main event, the dance, was from 8 to 10. Students danced to classics, old and new, carefully curated by the event’s DJ. The night wrapped up with a line dance, and a sing-along of the senior class’ theme song, Landslide by Fleetwood Mac.
All in all, prom was a memorable experience. “It was fun,” Reina Kang, senior, states. “I feel like it came together pretty cohesively… [but] they could’ve had more side activities/events, [more] fun things to do.”
“Very memorable,” Iwalani Rasor, another prom-goer, agrees. “I thought the DJ was great, the food [had] a good variety, Decor [was] solid.. [The] photobooth was nice, but I do think the line/where the line was placed was kinda inconvenient sometimes, cuz it kinda merged with the desert line.”
But at the end of the day, prom is what you make of it– the memories you make will outlast the memories. Prom could not have been possible without the senior leadership class, fellow students who worked tirelessly to make this last year’s prom a memorable one. Many thanks to not only the leadership class, but to the teachers, coordinators and staff who made this event happen!
