As news breaks of the newest season of Percy Jackson show on Disney+ it has become a top show for anyone who reads the books or is interested in Greek mythology. “As the show debuted in 2023 fans from around the world tuned in to watch the first season. It broke the record of viewers in six days (according to WDW News today) with 13.3 million watchers but that’s not all. It became the most streamed non-star wars, non-marvel show by minutes viewed.” This left people on the media waiting for more, with the top country being the US and the second country being Brazil, every Wednesday a new episode releases and within the first hours..The characters are portrayed by Walker Scobell(Percy), Leah Jeffries (Annabeth), Aryan Simhardi (Grover), Charlie Bushnell (Luke) and finally Dior Goodjohn (Clarisse). Walker is also known from the movie “The Adam Project” with Ryan Renyolds which was Walker’s hit on Netflix that debuted at number 1 movie on Netflix and stayed there for a weeks.
The show follows Percy, a thirteen year old boy who is the son of Poseidon. During the first season the show follows the book “the lightning thief”. As the season progresses with his adventures, he meets new people who help him along the way. Another focal point of the story is the chemistry between Annabeth Chase (daughter of Athena) and Percy himself. Fans who have read the books comment that the producers are rushing the relationship between . The reason is mostly because during Season 2 Episode 5 he says “I’d burn it all down”. Which led fans to think that the romance is speeding up faster than expected compared to the book. In the book the development of romance is a slow burn with more anticipation rising within the series. Many people are on the edge of their seats to see the new characters coming such as Nico and Rachel.
While Season 1 follows mostly a plot twist, Season 2 dives into some of the aftermath of it. In the Season viewers get to see more Clarisse (a complex character from season 1 who is the daughter of Ares) and how her character may have developed over the course of the twist. Some viewers commented that the first season’s twist was predictable while others said it was not obvious at all. In Season 2, viewers are met with a new main character “Tyson” (played by Daniel Diemer), who is a cyclops that Percy’s mother adopted. Within the released episodes our main characters face danger and get a glance at someone’s past to connect the dots within what happened during Season 1. Now, within Episode 8 a great battle has begun and the plot has thickened with twists and turns with a character from Annabeth’s past coming back and a reason why the character disappeared. Season 3 is set (no confirmed date) to debut later this year with many fans speculating it will be released in December based on the trailer that shows a dance in a winter setting.
