Nearly every junior, if not all, at Kaiser High School has a phone. Although they sometimes use them to assist themselves in their schoolwork, they usually use them for entertainment- either scrolling on a social media app, messaging others, or playing video games. I decided to ask some of the juniors what video games they liked.
A lot of the juniors commented that they liked Roblox (a platform where people can make and play games of all kinds), Block Blast (a casual, addicting puzzle game similar to Tetris that I’ve tried before), and Clash Royale (a strategy, real-time mobile game)- expected answers because they play these kinds of games in class or at school a lot. However, there were a few juniors that said that they liked other games, such as Splatoon, Cookie Run Kingdom, Minecraft, and Undertale. There were also quite a few juniors who said they didn’t really have a favorite video game because they don’t or rarely play video games.

A couple possible reasons why most of the juniors play these types of games is because they also want something to do to pass the time during class, as they can become bored and may want an activity besides scrolling. As well as that, some games pretty commonly mentioned, especially Roblox, are extremely accessible to multiplayer, so students can do something at school with their friends whenever they want. All they have to do is go on the game and join their friends, and they can easily connect together.

Surprisingly, students surveyed said that they didn’t have a favorite video game, especially since most of them are on their phone a lot. When asked why they didn’t have one they liked, some of them said that they weren’t that interested in video games in general. Some other reasons are the notion that video games are timely and addictive, they may get thrown off of their schoolwork from playing games, or that truly isn’t a hobby of theirs.

Overall, students who responded to questions about video games either liked casual video games or didn’t play any at all.
